OPEN SOURCE PROGRAMMING

Description:In Intro to Open Source Programming students learn basic to intermediate programming aspects of PHP--hypertext preprocessor. PHP is a versatile server-side programming language that works hand-in-hand with client-side Web languages such as HTML and JavaScript. PHP can be used tocreate all types of dynamic web interfaces, and because of its open-source robustness, has become one of the most widely used programming languages for the Internet. The course can be extended as necessary to include an introduction to database programming in MySQL. The PHP programming covers topics including variables, operators, control structures, loops, arrays, strings, functions, files, cookies, sessions, and more. In database programming students explore topics including creating databases and tables, inserting information, retrieving information, searching, summarizing, application development using PHP, and more.

Pre-requisites: departmental permission

Requirements: a windows laptop (preferrably school-issued) with administrator privileges (for possible installation of programs as needed) and Wi-Fi access.
